Turn-by-turn directions

From the town Lauenburg an der Elbe cyclists can cycle along the Elbe-Lübeck canal to the Eulenspiegel town of Mölln. The border to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at Lake Ratzeburg is now not far away. The Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve is located between the town Gadebusch and the island town of Ratzeburg. Numerous endangered animal and plant species find a retreat here. With a little luck, cranes, grey herons, otters and kingfishers can be observed during the passage.

The tour continues in the direction of the state capital. In the city of Schwerin, it is worthwhile to get off the saddle and relax with a cup of coffee on the castle island with a view of the lake Schweriner Innensee. Wiligrad Castle above the lake Schwerin is also a romantic place to visit. At the lake Bibowsee, Hasenwinkel Castle invites you to take a break. In the hilly country of the Mecklenburgische Schweiz (Mecklenburg Switzerland), which stretches behind the Barlachstadt Güstrow, the tour leads along shimmering lakes and dreamlike castles.

In the middle of the "Dreistromland" of the rivers Trebel, Tollense and Peene, lies the old Hanseatic city of Demmin. Cyclists follow river Trebel in the direction of the town Tribsees, only to soon see the silhouette of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Stralsund. Germany's largest island is easily reached via the Rügen dam. Once on the other side, cyclists can expect wide sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and picturesque seaside resorts. Through quaint villages and shady avenues, the route first leads to the residence town of Putbus. The route continues to the Jasmund National Park, north of town Sassnitz. A special highlight here are the Rügen chalk cliffs, which became famous by the painter Caspar David Friedrich.
